Ann Taylor Event
On December 13th and 14th, 2019, we had a great event at Ann Taylor in Tyson's Corner where we were able to pick out new professional outfits or something festive for the holiday season.

Discover Engineering Family Day at the National Building Museum 2019
17 BWS SWE members and 9 AIChE members volunteered at the Discover Engineering Family Day on Saturday, February 16th at the National Building Museum. SWE partnered with AIChE to teach the students about polymers by assisting them with making SLIME! SWE also distributed SWENextt Be That Engineer Posters. Overall the event was a success and we handed out 2,000+ baggies of slime!

Karolina DuBois, DCCEAS Young Engineer of the Year 2017
Karolina DuBois, SWE-BWS member, received the DC Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies (DCCEAS) Young Engineer of the Year award and was also selected as Outstanding Mentor by SWE Region E. Her DCCEAS Young Engineer of the Year award citation reads:
The District of Colombia Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies honors Karolina DuBois as Young Engineer of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contributions in the field of electrical engineering, expertise in digital hardware design, notable contributions to the air & missile defense, educator, promoting young women engineers and STEM programs, and her dedicated services to SWE. By order of the Board of Directors DC Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies. Presented this 25th Day of February 2017.

Mugshots and Margaritas at Agua 301 was a success on April 19, 2017! Thanks to our co-hosts SHPE and IISE and everyone that made it out. Hope you had a good time, and make good use of your new headshot!
Volunteering at Loaves & Fishes
Our section volunteered as a small group at Loaves and Fishes DC on January 30, 2016--the staff was very organized and responsive! Volunteers were divided into stations - cooking and doing prep work, cutting vegetables, making scrambled eggs, mixing white bean stew, etc. The group enjoyed their time while learning more about the kitchen process and setup and helping out a good cause.

Communication Workshop at Johns Hopkins
Our section had a successful collegiate event this past month in conjunction with John's Hopkins SWE! Nov 16, 2015, we had 22 college women attend the "Communication in the Workplace" workshop and participate in fun exercises and activities. Cindy Xun, President of JHU SWE, invited Ana Ramekar to lead the hour long workshop and share and analyze ways to be more confident and conveying ideas exactly in a professional setting. Thank you SWE JHU leadership and members for making this a fantastic event!

Aspire to Lead Workshop 2015
On Saturday September 19th, 2015, we hosted an event to explore the latest trends on effective female leadership and confidence perception at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, MD.

Dr. John Michel is an expert in the area of leadership and management. He received his Ph.D. from the Organizational Studies program at the University at Albany, State University of New York majoring in organizational behavior and human resources management. He also holds an M.S. from the University of Baltimore in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and a B.S. from Towson University in Psychology. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Management in the Joseph A. Sellinger, S.J., School of Business & Management at Loyola University Maryland. Dr. Michel’s research focuses on supportive and fun workplace practices, leadership and interpersonal influence, management development, prosocial behavior, and employee selection and retention. He has published more than 15 papers in various journals such as the Journal of Vocational Behavior, Group & Organization Management, Human Relations, Information & Management, Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies, Human Performance, Journal of Service Management, Journal of Applied Social Psychology.

Girls Go Techbridge STEM Event
07 Feb 2015 SWE-BWS in conjunction with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women hosted Girls Go Techbridge program, Engineers To The Rescue on Saturday, 9am-3:30pm! The projects highlighted the Engineering Design Process while interacting with STEM role model volunteers and explore careers to become inspired. In small groups, over 40 students brainstormed, designed, built, tested, and re-designed wind-powered cranks, water filtration systems, in-place shelters, and towers. Thank you to all our SWE-BWS volunteers for being role models and sharing your love of science and engineering with these young women!
