We had an awesome SWE brunch at Nicks Fish House near downtown Baltimore. A great sunny view of the water and marina. We had 23 women engineers in some great conversations, great food, and a good way to start the year.

24 BWS SWE members and 11 AIChE members volunteered at the Discover Engineering Family Day on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the National Building Museum. SWE partnered with AIChE to teach the students about polymers by assisting them with making SLIME! SWE also distributed SWE Be That Engineer Posters, SWE Aspire Cards, SWE Membership Information, SWENext Flyers, and SWE Scholarship Information. Overall the event was a success and we handed out 2,000+ baggies of slime!

What a great weekend in Newport News, VA! There were many members from SWE-BWS roaming the Region E Conference workshops, career fair, and learning from the various speakers at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We are proud to announce that we were recognized with the "Governor's Choice" award for our professional development workshop, "Aspire to Lead"--thank you to Beth Lomas, our workshop chair, and the whole committee for all your hard work to put together such an inspirational event!!

We are also excited to congratulate our VP of Outreach, Kate McGuire on being recognized with the "Outstanding Mentor Award"! Kate has been involved with the section for over 2 years working with K-12 and collegiate sections, encouraging her peers to promote engineering to budding scientists and engineers. You deserve it, Kate!

Our section volunteered as a small group at Loaves and Fishes DC--there were very organized and responsive staff! They were divided into stations - cooking and doing prep work, cutting vegetables, making scrambled eggs, mixing white bean stew, etc. The group enjoyed their time while learning more about the kitchen process and setup and helping out a good cause.

Our SWE professional section had a successful collegiate event this past month in conjunction with John's Hopkins SWE! Nov 16th, we had 22 college women attend the "Communication in the Workplace" workshop and participate in fun exercises and activities.

Cindy Xun, President of JHU SWE, invited Ana Ramekar to lead the hour long workshop and share and analyze ways to be more confident and conveying ideas exactly in a professional setting. Thank you SWE JHU leadership and members for making this a fantastic event!

9 BWS SWE members volunteered at BWS' Booth for the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland's Women In STEAM Festival on Saturday, November 14, 2015. At SWE's booth, 80+ students had the opportunity to become Electrical Engineers by using the Snap Circuits to learn about series and parallel connections. The students and parents also got to network with our engineers to learn more about their education and careers. SWENext handouts were provided to everyone who visited the booth, along with the Be That Engineer Posters, Aspire postcards, and information on SWE's scholarships!

BWS also hosted (2) TechBridge workshops where 40 students created Wind-Powered Cranks in order to rescue their food during a camping trip disaster.

Finally, both Kate McGuire and Natalie Bryner were asked to be on the panels that wrapped up the day's events. The students were given the opportunity to ask questions to all the panelists and they were eager to hear about each person's careers.
